Star Trek is brilliant. Literally.

No time for a detailed review, but this is as close to a perfect Star Trek…anything…as I’ve seen in years. It was a little disconcerting to see the future look all “futurey” and bright, but that didn’t make it any less awesome.

Do yourself a favor. Watch ‘Wrath of Khan’ before going, just as an appetizer.

funny, Remy came home from seeing the movie and said, “Would you mind if I put ‘Wrath of Kahn’ on?”. He and Mouse both loved the new film. I’ll get to see it tomorrow.

So there’s a tie-in to Khan?! OMG — I’m SO GEEKING! Can’t wait… must talk The Princess into going. [good luck with that]

I saw the movie yesterday (Tue 5-12) in Tampa at a new “IMAX experience” theater. First the theater was not what I have come to expect an IMAX theatre to be. An IMAX theater has a screen 72 feet in size, this one was only half that. With that said, the screen was larger than normal, the image sharper and the sound system at 12,000 watts dolby was a huge WOW factor. The movie: For serious trekkies the canon took some odd twists. [EDITED TO REMOVE SPOILERS] leaving the future wide open for new story lines. Not sure what Solly’s word limit is so I will cut this short by adding the new actors are refreshing and the action incredibly fast paced having seen it only once. Lots of humor and subtle references. Recommend it to trekkies and non trekkies alike.

I have to say: {EDITED TO REPLACE BRAIN PARTS} thank you.

    Freaking Awesome Movie!!!!

I was excited and skeptical all at the same time, and I left the movie giggling. Actually, I was giggling through the whole movie, once I wrapped my brain around the concept of how and why the movie works for everyone.

The casting, WOW! Everyone is perfect. OK, so Chekov isn’t quite perfect appearance-wise, but perfectly fine, and captured the character real well. Kirk, Spock, McCoy (the closest resemblance of them all, physically and character-wise) and Uhura were all spot on. And Scotty… I was so taken by him I didn’t even realize it was the Shaun of The Dead guy until Jacob told me when we were leaving. (Serious “Doh” moment there!)

Went with Jacob and one of his friends, Nick. Jacob knows a little about Star Trek, mostly from TNG and Enterprise, but not a lot. Nick hasn’t watched any of it before. Each of us loved it as much as the other. Guess that means the movie works for everyone, huh?

I loved it. Can’t wait till the next one. Hopefully no more time-travel. (My pet-peeve about most Star Trek stuff over the years, an easy plot crutch. Yes, absolutely necessary for this movie, but no more for a while guys, OK?) But whatever it is, it’ll be fun with this cast.

Little Dude is BEGGING to see this movie. Begging. And I’m trying to figure out how to get out of it. You just had to make it harder, didn’t you? 😛

I finally saw it earlier this week, and was fully prepared for disappointment…but was AMAZED and DELIGHTED at how it came out! It paid due homage to the past, but quickly began blazing a unique style that thrilled me. I’m hooked on Star Trek – again.

And the casting – whoa. Abrams nailed it. Didn’t think he could do it, but he pulled it off.
